The Plough is a small half-timbered pub on Priory Road, up on the West Hill, close to the castle ruins and a short walk from the top of the West Hill Lift. It feels a world away from the bustle of the Old Town below.

Its big draw is the garden: a large lawn and a paved patio that make it a summer favourite, especially after a walk over the hill. The pub has recently been refurbished and reopened.

On the bar are Harvey's Sussex Best and Timothy Taylor Landlord. There is no car park, but there is plenty of parking in the streets around, and the walk back down through the Old Town is half the pleasure.
